What's Your Guiding Light?
A few weeks ago I took a weekend trip to Maine. My cousin and I filled the tank up with gas, turned on the GPS, and headed north. We were looking for a quick get-away to someplace we hadn’t been and, at just about a 5-hour drive from New York, Portland, Maine fit the bill.
The theme for the weekend was lobsters and lighthouses. We mapped out our meals just as eagerly as we mapped out the lighthouses to visit. I’d have to say, our mission was accomplished - we visited 6 lighthouses and tried lobster rolls, lobster mac and cheese, lobster and bacon sandwich (yes…lobster and bacon!!), and of course steamed lobster. Maine owes us nothing!
It was interesting learning about lighthouses. The lighthouses were essential in keeping ships on course and guiding them to safety. They helped the ships navigate through the darkness of the night sky and the denseness of the morning fog.
As I think about the role of lighthouses to the ships, I can’t help but think about my own life.
What is my guiding light?
What gets me through the dark days and nights?
What reassures me that I am not alone even when I don’t see another soul around?
I find myself leaning on my faith more and more. My faith has been my guiding light and my comforter. I’m so glad I know that if He brings you to it, He will bring you through it.
Like for many of you, the past 2 years have been challenging for me. I’ve come to realize, that whether you know it or not, everyone around you is going through something.
As we leave the dusk of this year and enter the dawn of a new year, know that there will indeed be more storms.
If you make sure your guiding light, just like the lighthouse, is built on solid rock, it will see you to safe harbor.
